Criteria To Find Suitable Spouse For Successful Marriages

Many people spend months even years prepare for a wedding that will last for a few hours not to mention the fortune invested as well. But how many people actually prepare for marriage itself, which in Islam is expected to last a lifetime. It is imperative we select the most suitable partner, based on the criteria set out by Qur'an and Sunnah, ultimately forming heathy relationships that lead to successful marriages. Islam is a strong advocate of marriage and there is no place for celibacy as preached by our Great Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon HIM) who strssed that marriage is a religious duty and is consequently a moral safeguard as well as a social necessity. He said," Marriage is my Sunnah,so whoever turns away from my sunnah does not belong to me." ( Al-Bukhari and Muslim: 143). Contemplating this Hadith,we realize that nothing else in our religion has the potential to effectively improve our life, our work, our health, our faith, our children, our entire world and hereafter our life partner-- our spouse. In Islam a happy marriage is base on deep friendship, knowing each other well, having muual respect, knowing when it makes sense to try to work out an issue and when it is not solvable and to overlook it. However this is assuming both parties are compatible and the intial factor we should look for when marrying is how committed both contending wife and husband are to Islam. Prophert Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) advisee on selecting a potential partner: * A women is normally sought as a wife for her wealth, beauty, nobility or religiousness )Adherence to Islam) but choose a religious wife and you will prosper," (Al-Bukhsar:27). A woman is marries for four things, her wealth, her beauty, her family status, and her religion. You shouls marry the religious woman (otherwise) you will be the loser. Our Prophet (PBUH) said, "The whole world is a provision and the best object of the benefit of the world is pious woman," Muslim; 3465). Courtsy (Onislam.net)
