A conflict between Modi government and Indian Supreme Court began when Narenra Modi rejected the name of Solicitor general Gopal Subramaniam as supreme court judge proposed by Chief Justice Indian Supreme Court R M Lodha. Strictly criticising Modi's government chief justice Lodha in New Delhi threatened to resign on the issue. Lodha said no compromise would be done on the freedom of judiciary and government should not understand that court will accept everything from the government of if court was pressurised. Lodha aid more than one billion population will never tolerate any restriction on the freedom of the judiciary. Lodha shortened his foreign tour and returned back to New Delhi.
