Twenty-One Names Have Been Short Listed For The Permanent Post Of Chairman HEC

Government has short listed 21 names out of 103 for the permanent appointment of chairman Higher Education Commission. The name of present acting chairman HEC engineer Imtiaz Hussain Gilani is at the top of the list, though he does not fulfill the eligibility criterion, having only Master's degree. The names have been short listed by search committee under the chairmanship of minister for federal minister planning Ahsan Iqbal. According to the advertisement the chairman of HEC must be holder of PhD degree, with a number of research papers published in national and international journals of repute. The candidate for the post must have 20 years teaching experience, as is given in the ad. Senior officers of HEC told on the condition of anonymity to the reporters that according to the details given on he commission's website the condition for the recruitment of assistant professors and associate professors is PhD with 5-10 years teaching experience along with published research papers. But astonishingly, the head of the institution that regulates the high educational institutes was appointed a person with only master's degree in structural engineering and MBA. While, thousands of Master's degrees can not equal to one PhD degree. It is not wondering in the country ruled by illiterate and ignorant people who do not know the value and importance of education and research in the development and prosperity of a nation. The only skillful and eligible chairman was Dr Ataur Rahman in the history of HEC who sent thousands of young men to study abroad, while during the previous government of illiterate persons the scholarships of the students abroad were stopped putting them in trouble. Under an unqualified person the HEC's future and the future of highly educated people will be lost in darkness.
