Nicki Minaj's New Song's Artwork Is Disrespectful And Offensive-- Malcom's Family
Malcolm X's family and estate said Nicki Minaj's use of famous photo of the black nationalist with rifle in his hands and juxtaposing it with a racial slur for her new song's artwork is disrespectful and offensive. In an exclusive statement, Malcolm X's daughter Ilyasah Shabbaz said Minaj's use of picture "in no way is endorsed by our family". "Ms Minaj's artwork for her single does not depict the truth for Malcolm X's legacy" Shabbaz's statement added. It is noteworthy that Malcolm X's famous photo in Mijaj's cover art for her latest single "Lookin Ass N***a" has upset the family and estate of the late civil rights leader. And now the family is voicing their thoughts. "This is a family photo ans has been taken out in a totally inaccurate and tasteless way" the business representative of Malcolm X's estate said. But the estate and the family were not only questioning Minaj's actions. The "Starships" singer pulled down the artwork down on Thursday after being lambasted on social media and issued an explanation. "This was never the official artwork nor this is an official single." Nicki wrote via Instagram. "This is a conversation. Not a single. I am in the video shooting at "Lookin Ass N-ggaz" and there happened to be an iconic photo of Malcolm X ready to do the same thing for what he believed in!. It is in no way to undermine his efforts and legacy. I apologize to the Malcolm X estate if the meaning of the photo was mimisconstrued." I
