Unmarried Muslim Couple Living Together Were Caned In Indonesia

Hundreds of people gathered outside a mosque in Indonesia to see a woman being caned as punishment for being in a 'close proximity' to a man she was not married to. Under the Sharia laws, men and women who are not spouces are not allowed to get too close due to 'khalwat' offence and punishment is by public caning.
After being brought to the stage, as the crowd cheered woman was forced to kneel down while a masked man repeatedly whipped her with a cane.
Also being caned was the man she was accused of being too close to and he was forced to stand while being whipped.
Sharia law is the legal system of Islam, which is derived from both the Quran and the rulings of the religious scholars.
