Former Prime Minister Of Pakistan Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Was Fond Of Cricket In Childhood








Zulfaqar Ali Bhutto (late) was so fond of cricket in childhood that he agreed to marry in 14 years age for cricket bat. The first wife Amir Begum of Bhutto said that the famous cricket player Mushtaq Ali was his friend. His sister Mrs Munawwar ul Islam too confirmed Bhutto's interest in cricket. She said that Bhutto was in Cathedral High School and cricket game was his weakness. He had been playing first in junior and then in senior team of the school. He was fan of the famous cricketers Kardar and Amarnath but he liked mostly Mushtaq Ali. Among childhood friends of Z A Bhutto was Umar Qureshi.
Mrs Munawwar ul Islam thlaked about Umar Qureshi who is considered the founder of english commentary in Pakistan. Umar Qureshi had been school fellow of Bhutto and also remained together during higher education in the USA. They both used to watch cricket matches, movies and their likings were similar too. In his book "Time Goes By", Umar Qureshi wrote that he was sitting in the union one morning that I saw Zulfi enthusiastically come to me having Daily Togen in his hand ( Student magazine of Souther California) in which there was an ad Carnathan cricket club who were searching for cricket players. We called the given number and they invited us for trial next Sunday to report in Griffith park in Los Angeles. We participated in the trial and Carnathian cricket club made us the member of their team.
Zulfi's another friend was Pelo Modi who wrote a book "Zulfi My Friend" He also wrote anout keen interest of Bhutto in cricket.
Abdul Hafeez Kardar was the first captain of Pakistan cricket team. Bhutto appointed him minister provincial minister when he(Bhutto) was the prime minister of Pakistan and Kardar also performed as Chairman Cricket Board. In his books "Failed Expectations" and "Memories of an All-rounder" Kardar also werote about the trend of Bhutto toward playing cricket.
