Dozens Of Fertility Clinics Are Dealing In "Wombs For Rent" Business In India And Laos (Video)




Many fertility clinics have mushroomed in land-locked Laos after scandals over commercial surrogacy have spurred wealthier South Asian neighbors to ban the controversial procedures since 2015. The gleaming modern clinics have names featuring such as 'Miracle' and 'Perfect' to help them stand out amid the dusty surrounding roads and highways in the Lao capital of Vientiene close to the Thai border. Rights groups say communist Laos, one of the poorest Asian countries is a linchpin of transitional crimes, and a transit center of contraband from drugs and wildlife to timber and now semen. Laos is becoming an international destination for infertile couples, officials of two surrogacy advisory group told Reuters, although there are no official estimates that how many IVF clinics and surrogacy agencies have sprung up there.
