Did Scandals Cause The Fall Of Sarkozy Regime In France?








Nicolas Sarkozy remained the center of scandals during his presidential regime. However, the most serious scandal that led him to defeat was the financial assistance during 2007 election from killed Muammar Qaddafi of Libya. Fifteen days before the May 2012 presidential election on April 28, 2012, a website namely "Media Part" disclosed the documents that revealed the receipt of Euro 50 million ($ 66 million) by Sarkozy from Qaddafi during May 2007 election compaign. This created anger among the people in whole of the country and opposition also criticized Sarkozy. Later, former prime minister of Libya Baghdadi Ali ul Mahmudi also called theses reports correct.
It is noteworthy that these reports came to light for the first time when son of Qaddafi Saif ul Islam and the former intelligence chief Abdullah clearly declared that they had financially assisted the election compaign of Sarkozy in 2007 and they had proofs for that too. An close aide of Sarkozy also termed these allegation correct.
The documents reached to the hands of journalist of Media part when they were investigating "Karachi Case" against Sarkozy. This was a separate scandal regarding the kickbacks in the sale sub-marines to Pakistan.It is said that these sub-marines were purchased from France when People's party was in power in Pakistan in 1994. This matter suddenly came into sight when in a terrorist's attack in Karachi during 2002, fourteen marine engineers were killed. According to some reports the sicidal attack occurred when there were conflicts between the higher authorities of France and Pakistan relating to payment of commission. Nicolas Sarkozy was minister in the French cabinet.
A judge of France also verified that Pakistan was paid bribery in the sale of Agosta sub-marines, when investigation was underway in France. Seventeen point five zero million dollars out of nine hundred and fifty million dollars of bribery were sent to France, in the transaction. This money was spent on election compaign that wss run by Sarkozy. This was also known during the investigation of Karachi blast that an alleged amount more than $ 80 million was paid to Pakistani politicians and military officers in the sale of sub-marines.
