Pakistani Lawyers, Judges, Solicitors In UK Show Concern Over Davis Release

The Association of Pakistani Lawyers, a team of Pak lawyers, solicitors, barristers, judges in the UK, has expressed its grave concerns over the Raymond Davis release after reaching reconciliation with legal heirs of two assassinated youths Faizan and Faheem.
APL chairman Barrister Amjad Malik expressed his reservations with the speed of trial with which the case was concluded at Lahore district courts and questioned the ‘free will’ of the legal heirs without the aid of their lawyers. He said the US in a primary position of power must set right examples on principles promoting rule of law, justice and equality and such hasty acts would damage its credibility on claims of upholding rule of law in the wider world.
Barrister Amjad Malik demanded the Pakistani government that all those arrested and imprisoned in Pakistan must be offered due process and equal protection of law, as there are many who are in prisons for years waiting to be tried. The way the matter has been concluded hastily will raise doubt on government’s sincerity such as one sided preferential treatment of Americans whereas there was no step for quick repatriation of Dr Aafia Siddiqui who has been sentenced for 86 ears, he added. The APL chairman said that all citizens must be accorded with the equal protection of the law irrespective of their race, colour, nationality and financial position.
