Antikythera Mechanism-- One Of The Unsolved Mysteries On The Globe (Video)

When unsolved mysteries of the world are thought about, one unconsciously imagines of Bermuda Triangle or Pyramids in Egypt. But these are the only some of the prodigies, or astonishing things of the world. But there still a lot of enigmas that even in this modern technological age are challenging out intelligence. Among these some are hidden by nature, and some are the secrets of ancient civilizations that are still mystries for modern humans that despite several efforts could not be revealed yet. However, human being have not left efforts to unveil these mysteries. Among these is ** Antikythera Mechanism**-- One hundred fifteen years ago, an archeo;ogist was shifting through objects found in the wreck of of a 2,000-year-old vessel off the Greek island Antikythere. Among the wreck's treasure -- beautiful vases and pots, jewelry, a bronze statue of an ancient philosopher-was the most peculiar thing: a series of brass gears and dials mounted in a case the size of a metal clock. Archeologists dubbed the instrument the Antikythera Mechanism. The genius- and mystery of this piece of ancient Greek technology, arguably the world first computer, is why Google is highlighting it today in a Google Doodle. At first glance, the piece of brass found near the wreck looks something you might find in a junkyard or hanging on the wall of a martime -themes dive bar. What remains of mechanism is a set of rusted brass gears sandwitched into a rotten wooden box.------ But if you look into the machine, you see evidence of at least two dozen gears, laid nearly on top of one another, calibrated with the precision of a master-crafted Swiss watch. To archeologists, it was immediately apparent that the mechanism was some sort of clock, calendar or calculating device. In 1959, Princeton scientist Solla Price provided the most thorough scientific analysis of the contraption to date. After a careful study of the gears, he deduced that the mechanism was used to predict the position of the planet, and stars in the sky depending on the calendar month. A gear would move to represent the calendar year, and would in turn, move many separate smaller gears to represent the motions of planet, sun and moon. So you could set the main gear to calendar date and get approximations for where those calestial objects would be in the sky on that date. Price declared in pages of Scientific American that it was a computer and mechanism is like a great astronomical clock--- or like a modern analogue computer which uses mechanical parts to save tedious calculations. This computer like mechanism was used to calculate four year cycle of Olympic games. This apparatus gave so accurate information that after this invention no apparatus was invented better than this even during next 1000 years. Some people also say that this was the gift of aliens, though many scientists do not believe in this, but they wonder that how Greek invented this mechanism which was far ahead as compared to the developments of that era.
