6th Census Shows Increase Of 75.4 Million People in 19 Years In Pakistan




Pakistan's population has surged to staggering 207.8 million showing an increase of 75.4 milliom people in 19 years, according to provisional summary results of 6th population and Housing Census 2017. Men's population is higher than that of women's. The population is just over 1.30 million in 1998, the year when 5th census was conducted. This means that country has seen an increase of 57 % in population at an annual rate of 2.4 %. The majority of the people 52.9 %- to be precise still live in Punjab but its share in the population pie has declines when compared with 1998 census results. Khyber Pakhtoonkha and Balochistan are the beneficiaries of the reduction in Punjab's share, as Sindh's share in the total population remains unchanged. Punjab's population is 110 million, Khyber Pakhtoon Kha 30.05 million, Balchistan 10.23 million, Sindh 40.78 million, FATA 5 million while Islamabad has 2 million population. Total population of men is 100.64 million while women are 100.13 million where there are 10,000 transgenders in Pakistan. Majority of the population still lives in rural areas while most of the urban population is concentrated in three major cities Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur.
