300 Muslims Forcefully Converted To Hinduism In India
The issue of 'conversion' of around 300 Muslims to Hinduism in Agra, raised in Indian Parliament with opposition leaders in the both the houses made uproar. The issue was raised in zero hour in the Rajya Sabha as soon as the house met for the day, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mahawati declared it an attack on the secular ideology of the country. Mahawati was backed by by other opposition members who jointly asked for a statement by the prime minister on the issue. the matter was also raised in the lower house by Trinamool Congress party leader Sultan Ahmad. Mahawati said, "our nation is run by the constitution which has secularism as its pillar. Whichever party is in the government is responsible for the safety of the life and religious beliefs of the people." Nearly 300 Muslim members of 60 families in the slum areas of outskirts of Agra embraced Hinduism. The Bajrang dal said it had arranged the event. She said there is a provision that no forced conversion will be made. We got to know through the media that RSS's sister organisation Bajrang Dal has forcefully converted Muslims in Agra. She alleged that Muslims were lured, Bajrang Dal took advantage of their poverty to convert them. Mahawati said "the issue should be taken up seriously. Although I know the central government will say it is state subject. She added warning that if this practice is not stopped it will create communal tension in the whole country. The government must take strict action.
