Saudi Arabia Plans To Monitor Twitter Users
Saudi Arabia is trying to limit the anonymity for microblogging site Twitter and cosidering allowing users with identity documents to access the site. This action will facilitate government to acess to the Twitter accounts od some the users. The site of this micro blogging is very popular in Saudi Arabia which is used for discussing the most sensitive topics like religion and politics. Last week the telecommunication department had warned that the mobile facilities or social applications like skype that can be used for easy could be blocked. It is recalled that internet is strictly monitored in Saudi Arabia and the Internet providers are bound to nude or porn material. In the beginning of the current month the spokeperson of interior ministry had saifd that extremists use the social website for spreading lawlessness in the country. According to REUTER report, the famous religious scholar Salman Aloada had tweeted two week back and criticised the government's hard security policy and had demanded better facilities. He had warned that if that is nor done it may lead to violence. Salman has 2.4 million followers on Twitter. Moreover, during the current month two persons were sent to jail for a long period on the accusation of internet and other crimes. They were alleged for using Twitter and other sites to criticise the government. In Saudi Arabia many Royal family members use tWitter including Shah Abdullah himself.
