Olympics Medal Tally 2012 By The End Of Day 5
China and the United States are beginning to pull away from the rest of the world as the fifth full day of events at the 2012 Olympics in London have come to a close. Running neck and neck in the medal count over the past couple days, China pulled ahead by one of the United States and leads 30 to 29 overall medals at the end of Wednesday, August 1, 2012.
Still, to win a medal in the Olympics at all is an incredible accomplishment. 49 countries have now won medals which brings the total up a full six just from Tuesday.
The Olympic medals at the London Games are being handed out in droves, but all deserving.
Twenty gold medals were given out on Wednesday meaning that a lot of athletes ended up in a happy place by the evening. Gold medals were given out in men's kayak, men's and women's cycling, men's diving, men's individual gymnastics, men's and women's judo, men's and women's rowing, men's and women's swimming, women's shooting, and table tennis.
Below is a small legend showing the meaning of each letter in the medal count standings below and for each country. If a particular medal has not been won yet, it is left out.

After four full days of Olympic competition, there have now been 229 total medals given out in all to 49 different countries. The medal count stands as follows: 73 Gold, 74 Silver, and 82 Bronze.
