In 2010, 8391 brides were killed. According to Indian National Crime s Record Bureau, during 2008, 3876 cases of burning of those women were recorded who did not bring dowry with them. among the criminals 1948 were sentenced.
Most of the women are killed by their husbands at homes by sprinkling kerosene oil and burnt. Since 1993 it has been the major brutal act in India. The number of such cases in India during the eighties was 400, while in the decade of ninety the annual number of burning the women reached to 6000 annually. Only 30 % of the criminals could be sentenced.
