Twin Births Are Increasing In The World
Interesting facts were concluded from a study that the number of twin births have been increasing in the world after 1980. According to the report of National Center for Health Statistics in the United States during 1980 one baby among every 53 babies taking birth had been twin. While after 1980, one baby is twin per 30 children, it means that 3 more twin babies are taking birth among 100 babies. Therefore, during the last 30 years twin birth rate has increased to 78 %. According to the study similar cases have been observed in Asia , Africa and Europe.
The author of the study Joice Martin said that it is wondering to observe the increased rate of twin births during this period. Joice Martin has conducted several studies research on the twin as well as on the births of 3 babies at a time. She said that looking at the statistics of the USA only, it was observed that in the 43 states including district of Columbia, the increase rate was 50 %, while in other 5 states Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts,New Jersey and Rhodes Island the increase in twin birth rate was 100 %. The maximum increased rate was observed in non-hespanic white colored mothers. Joice Martin said that 2/3 of the twin births took place of the women who were delayed mothers. She said that mothers delivering babies in the third and fourth decade of their age were more likely to give birth to twins as compared to those who become mothers in early age.
Joice Martin told she and her colleagues think that this trend may be due to the increased use of family planning drugs. Though the twin birth rate is 3 % of the total births, however, increase in twin births rate has wondered experts. According to the study twin or birth of 3 babies is of prime importance because it increases health problems and increase in expenses as well. The twin birth has possibility of pre-mature birth and babies may be smaller in size and may not be healthy.
