Devastating Natural Calamities During 2011
During 2011, natural calamities snatched the lives of tens of thousands of people and millions have suffered. Though the natural calamities like severe earth quakes, floods, long span of dry weather and land sliding occurred during the end of 2010 but its effects extended vastly in the year 2011. In the end of 2010, whole of the Europe including Britain remain in the grip of cold weather and heavy snowfall that paralyzed the life. It was said record cold during the last 100 years. In the light of these calamities we can see the picture of 2011.
Due to heavy rains on January 01, in Jidda, Mekka Mukarrama, Medina Munawwra, Taif and Tabuk cities of Saudi Arabia, Jiddaa Civil Aviation closed airport and the oncoming flights were turned to Jazan and Medina Sharif. Some flights were canceled scheduled from Jidda. Roads were flooded and many vehicles got estranged. Some of the private offices and factories stopped working. Emergency was declared in the hospitals. Met office forecast more rains the people were asked to avoid going to low lying areas.
Several areas of West America faced severe blizzard that hit the areas between New Mexico to Minnesota. Several highways were closed for traffic due to snow fall.
Heavy flood paralyzed life on January 02 in Australia. Queen's land was declared as calamity hit area. Point two million people were affected. The airport of Rock Hompton was closed.
On January 03, Tsunami waves hit the city of Adden in Yemen. Eighty African immigrants aboard boats were drowned. Only 3 people could be rescued. Mostly these people belonged to Somalia.
Floods in the North Eastern Australia, Philippine,Brazil, and Srilanka killed millions of people and destroyed thousands of houses in these countries. Property worth millions of dollars was damaged.
On April 11, the earth quake of 7.1 severity hit the areas near the atomic installation at FokoShima at the depth of 10 km. The earth quake of March 11, caused blast in the Atomic power plant of japan resulting in the leakage of radiation.
