Thousand Miles Under Sea Cable Network Keeps The Internet Traffic Running
Many people think that Internet traffic works through the satellites but it is not the case actually. Ninety percent of the Internet traffic runs by means of the wires spread under the international seas. Their number is 125, while 25 additional wires will be added to the present network by 2013. Several of these wires are thousands of miles long connect the continents and the countries.
This was in 1865 when undersea wires were laid to improve telegraphic system between the USA and Britain. These wires reached to Mombai during 1970 and it made possible to dispatch telegram from India to Britain. The messages could be sent through Moras Code, but the technology of that age was not too developed so only 10-12 words could be sent per minute. Today through fiber optical cable a complete encyclopedia can be transmitted in a second.
During 1956 telephone cables were laid down under the Atlantic Ocean. Through this first wire (TAT-1) only 36 calls could be made, simultaneously. Slowly and gradually the technology kept on developing and number of call also increased per unit time. Actual revolution took place 1988 when first under water fiber optical cable (TAT-8) was laid under Atlantic Ocean that made to make 2500 telephone calls per minute at a time.
In 1982 American scientists invented optical fiber amplifier . Now, with this invention the message sent through fiber optical wire was fastened like the initial message after every 25-30 mile with this it was possible to make 0.6 million callas at at time.
Today the latest fiber optical system is "Hibernia Atlantic".It will start working in 2012.The cable laid under the Atlantic Ocean will connect Canada, USA, Ireland, Britain and Europe. Through this cable it will be possible to transmit 8.8 tetra bite data in a second. Thus, Hibernia Atlantic will make it possible to make 600 million calls at a time.
