Sleeping sickness is a fatal disease. The patient loses weight, feels fever and central nervous system gets in danger. Now scientists say that they have developed a treatment to defeat the disease with bacteria. This bacteria will be made enter into the body of the fly that carries the viruses for the disease injecys in human body. This beneficial is found in the human intestine as the virus is found in the intestine, muscles and saliva of the vector.
Scientists in Belgium have enabled the friendly bacteria genetically that can destroy the virus responsible for the sleeping sickness. This study was published in American Medical Journal. The sleeping sickness is called in medical language " human African trypanosomiasis" Though this disease is declining, however its 7000 cases were recorded during 2010. THe affected patient seems abnormal and suffers from severe sleeplessness. Though treatment is available but the medicines have side affects. So medical experts are trying to treat the disease with sodalis glosinidius bacteria that will kill the viruses that are injected by the fly namely tee zateri. The genetically mutated bacteria will produce anti bodies attacking the viruses.
