Pakistan International Airlines ( PIA)-- A Shaking Service In The Air

Pakistan International Airlines, once with the slogan" Great People to Fly With" was a symbol of national pride and dignity. But, today this institution is burden on the national sources due to severe mismanagement and corruption. Agreement corruption scandals, trouble to the passengers due to delay in flights or presence of cockroaches and mice in the plane are the features of today's PIA.
But, the situation prevailing today was not the same two decades back. Once PIA had created its confidence nationally and internationally. PIA was the result of merger of Orient Airways Limited founded by Mirza Ahmad Asphahani before partition on October 23, 1946 on the proposal of Quad e Azam. The merger took place on March 11, 1955 and the new national airlines was named as Pakistan International Airlines Corporation.
PIA experienced a golden age when Retd Air Martial Noor Khan was appointed the Managing Director of the corporation in 1959. Under Noor Khan (Late)'a 6 years period PIA was established as financially the strongest institution. PIA bagged the honor of starting first in Asia the flights of Jet Boeing 701-321. With the passage of the time under Noor Khan's administration PIA introduced several new innovations. PIA connected Pakistan with Asia, Europe and America via new aerial routes. PIA was the first non-communist airlines that started flights to China in 1964.
Today PIA faces deficit of billions of Rupees annually. While 3 years after fall of Dhaka in 1974, PIA's total profit was $ 3 million. While it used to get $ 4 million for providing services to other airlines, annually. The total budget of the corporation was $ 2 billion and income was more than $5 million. While its total income during 1975-76 was more than $ 2 billion.
In addition to financial gains, PIA had been providing technical help to several airlines.It signed an agreement in 1977 with air Malta for technical assistance. It alsi assisted Air China to improve its flight kitchen. It was the glorious past of the Pakistan International Airlines. Today its condition is the worst. What are reasons?
