Second Malala From Swat Gets International Award
Another women rights activist, Tabassum Adanan, after Malala, from scenic but militancy-hit Swat valley bagged International award. She is the founder of NGO Khwendo Jirga (Sister's Council). She has been awarded 2015 Secretary of State's International women of Courage Award in recognition of her services for women rights. Deputy Secretary (US) Higginbottom presented 10 extraordinay women from 10 countries (IWCA). A victim of child marriage, Tabassum was married when she was 13-year-old. After suffering 20 years of physical and mental abuse,she divorced her husband which made her lose her children, home and money. Later she founded her NGO Khwendo Jirga, a first of its kind a women's-only-jirga, where women meet weekly to discuss issues such as honour killing, acid attack and Swara, or giving woman as compensation of crime ( honour-damage).
