Voice Mailer Of Prince William Was Also Hacked
Many disclosures about the unwanted activities of the news of the world came to light one after another. An articles was published in the newspaper on November 13, 2005 that was written by editor Clive Godman the in charge of the desk responsible for the coverage of royal family affairs. He claimed in the article that prince William was trying to get portable editing suit( the machine for editing the audio video tips) on loan from the journalist of ITV Broad Bye. After the report was published both Prince William and Broad bye were too worried because they kept the deal too secret. Now the question arose how the conversation between them was leaked out and reached to third person.
Prince William and Broad Bye after thinking reached to the conclusion that somebody got access to their voice mailer. After this Metropolitan police team started investigation headed by Deputy Assistant Commissioner Peter Clark who was related to counter terrorism commond. Clark and his team searched the London office of the News Of the World and gathered some evidences that showed that voice mailer of Prince William was accessed and hackers belonged to the office of the news of the world. The result of the investigation was the arrest of Clive Godman and a private investigator Glennin Malcare in August 2006. They were accused of hacking the phone calls of royal family. This was the violation of the clause 79 of the Regulations of Investigatory Powers Act 2000.
The News of the World had spent lbs 104988 as bribery to get access to the voice mailer of prince William. Malcare received lbs 12300 as his share out the total amount. His name in the account sheet was shown as Elexander. On January 26, 2007, Godman and Malcare confessed the accusations. Malcare confessed hacking of phones of royal family and disclosed other personalities too whose voice mailers were accessed resulting which he was sentenced for 6 months while Godman for 4 months imprisonment. Same day the editor of the news of the world Andi Colman also resigned from his responsibilities , however, he said that he was unaware of the illegal activities. During March 2007, a close aids of the owner of the news of the world Ropert Murdoch had to face the interrogations by the parliamentary committee. However, no major proofs of the phone hacking by the news of the world were revealed and after two months press complaint commission also relieved the newspaper from the accusations.
