1,700 Years Old Sleeping Budha Was Unveiled Near Haripur, KPK, Pakistan




Pakistan unveiled the remains of a 1,700 year-old sleeping Budha image on Wednesday, part of an intiative to encourage tourism and project religious harmony in the troubled region. A reflection of the diverse history and culture of the country, the ancient Budhist site in Bhamala. Khyber Pakhtoonkhaw (KPK) was first discovered in 1929. Eight-eight years on, excavations resumed and 14-meter- (48 foot)-high kanjur stone Budha was unearthed, with Pakistan Tehreek-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan presiding over the presentation on Wednesday. This is from the 3rd century AD, making it the world's oldest sleeping Budha remains. Other 500 Budha objects were also discovered, which are assets of the country. The region was once the center of Budhist civilisation that took root under the Mauran King Ashoka 2,300 years ago.
