Changing Pakistan-- Yesterday's Hotel Waiter Is MNA In New Pakistan
The recentgeneral elections brought its fair share of surprises, but a hotel waiter winning a seat in the national assembly from Bajuar by ousting a heavy weight political personality must be biggest of all. Gul Zafar, who is known as Baghi or Lewanai (rebel) by locals, is among one of the working class PTI's members from an area which has been the part of former federally administered tribal area (FATA). He won from NA-41 Bajuar by defeating PPP candidate Akhunzada Chattan, as well as independent candidate Shahabuddin Khan. Zafar, who has worked his way up by starting from hotel waiter contested polls back in 2013 but was defeated. When Zafar was asked how was he able to win the seat against steep odds. He said," I come drom a very humble background but with the party's help I was able to raise the necessary funds to run election compaign. He said they raised twenty million rupees from donations from which they constructed officesand secretriate. We do not have any lavish lifestyles and the people have voted for change.
