Women's Only First Auto Rickshaw In Lahore
An environmentalist, fed up with being groped and harassed by male male auto rickshaw drivers has launched her own service exclusively for women passengers and drivers, however, there is only one rickshaw on road so far. Zar Aslam, the president of Pakistan's non-profit Environment Fund, said she once narrowly escaped kidnapping by a rickshaw driver when she was a student, which triggered the idea of launching her "Pink Rickshaw" service. Zar Aslam's plan is to have 25 rickshaws up and running on the road but for the purchase of one rickshaw costs Rs 300,000 which she can not do with any sponsor. There is another girl in Tangi (KPK) Wajiha, 11 year, who is driving rickshaw because her father was badly injured in Taliban attack. Inamuddin, the father of Wajiha has withered legs due which he gets tired soon and Wajiha take afternoon duty to drive Richshaw. Inamuddin used to be a proud member of Paramilitary force but got injured in July 2006 when Taliban attacked his paramilitary check post in northwestern valley of Swat.
