Saudi Court Sentenced Blogger 1000 Lashes,10 Years Jail And Fined Dh 1 m

Saudi Arabia on Friday flogged a local man 50 times as a part of 1000 lashes ordered by a court which also ordered him 10 years jail and ordered closure of his website deemed to be against the regime. but the sentence appeared to trigger public discontent with newspapers saying most readers considered the ruling linient and called for beheading Raif Badawi who has been in jail since 2012. Badawi was lashed in public in Jeddah and the papers said he will be lashed 50 times every day. Badawi, the founder of " The Free Saudi Liberals" website, was arrested in July 2012 and accused of insulting Islam and plotting to undermine the regime.
