PPP Government Blames Punjab Government For Crimes In The Province

Street crimes and other heinous crimes are on the rise all over the country, what the interior ministry is doing for daily killings in Karachi. The case is not with the Punjab province but whole of society is degraded.
Punjab Police have identified at least 4,000 female criminals involved in murder, kidnapping, robbery and other heinous crimes across the province.
A special report compiled by the provincial police, states that these women have killed over 200 people and injured 560 others during various incidents. They have also kidnapped 1,635 persons, carried out assault on 9 public servants, committed 12 dacoities and robbed over 60 homes during 2011.
According to the report, female criminals were also involved in 1070 incidents of theft, 325 cases of fraud, two cases of cheatings, 35 cases of narcotics and some 22 crimes that come under local and special laws.
Meanwhile, the second half of the report reveals crimes against women and the motives behind such incidents. The document states that at least 1576 women were murdered, over 2560 were raped, 210 were gang raped and 11433 were kidnapped during the previous year.
Official data further shows, around 360 cases that were registered against women on charges of illicit relations, 235 cases of family and dowry disputes, 15 cases of love affairs, 29 cases of kidnapping for revenge, over 70 cases of old enmities, 115 of simple quarrels, 12 cases of monetary disputes and 35 cases of marriage and nikkah disputes. Some 115 cases were lodged against women in connection with quarrels with their husbands.
Talking about the motives in crimes against women, an Additional Inspector General of Police, said on condition of anonymity said that females are fighting for their rights in the male dominated society of Pakistan, “now we will have to accept the importance of their existence and their role in everyday society and nation building”. He admitted that males are often held guilty because of their hostile attitude, but the entire social structure will collapse if we avoid accepting the role played by women in the society.
Voicing his opinion about land ownership and marital disputes, advocate Lahore High Court Ghulam Shabbir Surani said “Although, women are held guilty in maximum cases, the socio-economic factors, which motivate them cannot be ignored,” Shabbir added that such crimes can be prevented if the federal and provincial governments introduce reforms and projects to raise women’s social status.
President of the PPP (Punjab) Women Wing Faiza Malik said blamed the PML-N led provincial government for failing to hunt down real criminals. Ms. Malik said “The provincial government has empowered the police department for vested interests, so the crimes against women have shot up to alarming levels during the recent years,” she said, adding the government has focused on PSP Cadre rather than bringing reform to the Thana culture. “Majority of the PSP Cadre officers deal with women victims politely whereas the SI and SHOs don’t possess the basic manners of dealing with a woman,” said Faiza.
To a query regarding female criminals, Faiza Malik said that most of the times innocent and uneducated females fall prey to the hardened criminals, who exploit them by indulging them in criminal acts. Defending her party’s role in the area, Faiza Malik said “PPP led central government has introduced countrywide Benzair Income Support Program to empower women belonging to downtrodden classes”.
