Panama Leaks Triggered Global Investigations Against Corrupt Leaders
This time it is not a financial institution but law firm which did everything illegal for the rich and the powerful. Panama papers heralded the beginning of mega leaks and opened the names of world top leaders who avoided taxes and have invested their money in off-shore companies. A cautious source called German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung once, around the end of 2014. The Whistleblowing came in four years after Wikileaks. The German Daily checked some documents. The information overload led the newspaper to reach out to US-based International Consortium of Investigative Journalists who employed dozens of reporters from around the world to check the facts. Nothing is said to be disclosed by any of the team members. The Emails, PDF files, and excerpts of an internal Mossack Fonseca database exposed dictators, politicians, Japanese Mafia, Sicilian mafia, Russian Mafia, weapon dealers, drug dealers, pedophiles, terrorists, santion-busting cleriks like Ahmadinejad. Among the 140 elites political are the families of prime ministers of Iceland, UK, Pakistan, presidents of Argentina, Russia, China, Ukraine, Syria besides former Iraqi premier and son of former UN secretary general Kofi Annan. The leaked database expands more than over 40 years from 1977 to December 2015. The law firm creates shell companies-- an entity without an active business which exists as a vehicle for another company's operation. It helps its clientele to evade taxes and turn black money into white. It seems a beginning of the long trailer. Nearly two hundred Pakistani politicians, businessmen and media personnel. The list may expand further. However, if Sharifs and Bhuttos escape legal and political fall outs , they will remain in world headlines along with other corrupt politicians. The reaction of Khulubuse Zuma, the nephew of South African leader who followed Nelsen Mendela is the same as that of Sharif families. While Germany, France and Italy are starting investigation to establish criminal cases against the institutions and citizens involved. Sharifs will never let the NAB investigate against them, but Chief Justice of Pakistan can take Suo Moto action.
