Can Southern Part Exist Independently If Separated From Northern Sudan
Referendum in the northern part of Sudan has already ended for the option to be with or without northern part, however it will take a week more to declare the result officially. Sudanese leadership showed greater elasticity to maintain peace in the south. Separatist leaders were included in the government, but every effort of the government got wasted and they were dreaming the same they had been shown by the western powers. The president Umr Al Bashir was of te view that southern part will have many challenges of instability to face if got separated.
Having 40 mn population, Sudan is rich in petroleum and crude oil. Inspite of many sanctions from the USA, Sudan is progressing economically. Its main trade partners include China and Japan. Sudan exports its 60 % of oil to China. A 1500 km long pipe-line is under construction that will extend from the south (where oil is explored) to Port Sudan in the north. If the southern part is separated the Sudan government may stop this project and the immediate sufferer will be the southern part that will be the 193rd state of the world. USA who has played a key role in the campaign to separate the south will be unhappy when south may start dealing with China. China is already busy in dialogue with the leaders of South and teaching them to decide themselves and independently all their internal matters. Chinese, on one side are maintaining good relations with the rulers of African countries and on other side they are developing their relations with powerful tribal leaders with in these countries. China had already opened a Consulate in the capital Juba of southern Sudan. During October 2010, an official delegation of China met the leaders of Peoples Liberation movement in Southern Sudan. While the leaders of the Movement also visited China. It is evident that Southern Sudan is more inclined towards China.
