Pop group Girls Aloud is to reunite for its tenth anniversary next year, according to band member Nadine Coyle.
The girl band took a hiatus in 2009 to allow the singers to concentrate on individual projects, but they have been dogged by split rumors ever since Cheryl Cole’s solo career took off. The stars have been in talks to get back together in 2012 to mark a decade since they were plucked from obscurity on TV talent show Popstars: The Rivals and Coyle has now confirmed the reunion. She says, “We always discuss doing a 10-year reunion thing. So that's going to be next year. We're definitely going to do something. But it’s a whole huge production. Girls Aloud is not just us five, there’s, like, us five plus a ridiculous team of 50 who travel with us, it’s amazing.”

US General David Petraeus admitted Wednesday there was no option but to work on troubled relations with Pakistan, days after standing down from his job at the helm of coalition forces in Afghanistan.
Speaking in Paris on his way to his new job as CIA chief, the most celebrated military leader of his generation said Afghanistan's neighbour wanted to eliminate Al-Qaeda and Taliban militants but was struggling. "They'll be the first to say that there are limits to how much they can do," said the man who headed the United States' longest-running war for the last year, with less territory controlled by militants today but civilian deaths up.
Petraeus said Pakistani anti-militant operations have been impressive but they "clearly need further effort to deal with some of the other elements, like the Qaeda network in North Waziristan and the Taliban in Baluchistan".
"This relationship is in a difficult stage," Petraeus said, blaming WikiLeaks revelations, the arrest of CIA agent Raymond Davis as well as the killing by US forces of Al-Qaeda kingpin Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan in May.
He said it was believable that Pakistani intelligence did not know that Bin Laden was hiding out in Abbottobad, when he was killed there. "It is credible to me that they did not know. We received no intelligence whatsoever to indicate that there was any awareness that he was there."
But while "we see the Bin Laden raid as an extraordinary success, intelligence together with military forces, Pakistan sees it as an affront to their national sovereignty, we've got to work our way through this".
"We know what happens when we walk away from Pakistan and Afghanistan, we've literally seen the movie before, it's called 'Charlie Wilson's War' (about covert US support for anti-Soviet Afghan fighters) and indeed that is not in my view a good option. "However difficult the relationship may be it's one we need to continue to work, it's one where we need to recognize what our Pakistani partners have done, they've sacrificed several thousand soldiers and police and their civilians have suffered substantial levels of violence."

Exact Height Of Mount Everest To Be Measured By Nepal

Nepal has begun a project to re-measure Mount Everest in an attempt to end confusion about the exact height of the world's tallest peak, a government spokesman in Kathmandu said Tuesday.
Everest, which straddles Nepal and China, is generally thought to stand at 8,848 meters (29,029 feet) after an Indian survey in 1954, but other more recent measurements have varied by several meters.
Gopal Giri, a spokesman with the Nepalese land reform and management ministry, told that during border talks between the two countries, the Chinese delegates often use their measurement of 8,844 meters. "We have begun the measurement to clear this confusion. Now we have the technology and the resources, we can measure ourselves," Giri said. "This will be the first time the Nepal government has taken the mountain's height."
He said that the project's results would only be known in two years' time after reference points are set up on Everest and then global-positioning system satellites are used to calculate the precise measurement.
Last year, officials from both nations reached a compromise under which Nepal measured the height of Everest's snow cap at 8,848 meters and China measured the rock peak at 8,844 meters.
The first measurement of Everest was made in 1856. It was conquered in 1953 by Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary, and has since been climbed by more than 3,000 people.

Phone Hack Scandal Rejected By Murdoch At Hearing

Prime Minister David Cameron arrived back in Britain to face a gruelling examination over the phone-hacking scandal on Wednesday, a day after Rupert Murdoch told lawmakers he was not to blame for the crisis.
Cameron returned to London late Tuesday from an African trip which was cut short to allow him to address Britain's lower House of Commons and answer lawmakers' scrutiny over his links to Murdoch's media empire.
The crisis spread to Australia on Wednesday when Prime Minister Julia Gillard stated that News Ltd, the Australian arm of Murdoch's media empire, had "hard questions" to answer over the scandal.
Australian-born mogul Murdoch called his appearance before a British parliamentary committee on Tuesday the "most humble day of his life" but his grilling was interrupted when a protester attacked him with a foam pie.
The 80-year-old News Corporation chief's Chinese-born wife Wendi Deng leaped up and slapped the assailant, who was dragged off by police, before the parliamentary committee resumed quizzing Murdoch and his son James.
The attack came near the end of more than two hours of questioning during which Murdoch denied ultimate responsibility for the scandal that forced him to shut the News of the World newspaper.
Appearing frail and at times stumbling to a halt in his testimony, he did however apologise to the victims, saying at the outset: "I would just like to say one sentence. This is the most humble day of my life."
The scandal has rocked Murdoch's global empire, forced two of Britain's top police chiefs to resign and placed Cameron under pressure.
Murdoch said it was "not an excuse" but that with a company of 53,000 staff he could not be blamed for failing to uncover the scandal.
Asked whether "ultimately you are responsible for this whole fiasco", Murdoch tersely replied: "No". When pressed over who he blamed, Murdoch said: "The people that I trusted to run it and then maybe the people they trusted."
But he said he was "absolutely shocked, appalled and ashamed when I heard about the Milly Dowler case two weeks ago," referring to a murdered teenager whose phone was allegedly hacked by the News of the World.
However, his son James Murdoch admitted News International had paid the legal fees of Glenn Mulcaire, a private investigator jailed in 2007 when the hacking at the paper was first exposed.
Australian leader Gillard responded: "I do believe that Australians watching all of that happening overseas with News Corp are looking at News Ltd here and are wanting to see News Ltd answer some hard questions."
Around two hours into the hearing, a man in a checked shirt jumped up and attacked Murdoch with a plate covered with foam.
Police said Wednesday they had charged Jonathan May-Bowles with behaviour causing harassment, alarm or distress in a public place. The man was bailed to appear before magistrates on July 29.
The 26-year-old comedian also goes by the stage name "Jonnie Marbles". In a Twitter message shortly before the incident, he said: "It is a far better thing that I do now than I have ever done before #splat."
Opposition Labour party chief Ed Miliband prepared Wednesday to turn up the heat on Cameron over the leader's links to Murdoch's empire and apparent reluctance to face the crisis.
Cameron's Conservative party admitted that his former media chief Andy Coulson, himself an ex-News of the World editor, had received "informal advice" before elections last year from Neil Wallis, a key suspect in the hacking row.
Wallis was Coulson's deputy at the tabloid. Both men have been arrested for suspected hacking, and Cameron has faced opposition calls to apologise for hiring Coulson, who left Downing Street in January.
Wallis, meanwhile, is also at the heart of allegations that forced Scotland Yard chief Paul Stephenson, Britain's most senior police officer, and anti-terror chief John Yates to resign within the space of 24 hours.
A Home Affairs Select Committee report published Wednesday slammed the force over a "catalogue of failures" and "deplored" News International's attempts to "deliberately thwart" the original phone-hacking probe.
During the final committee hearing on Tuesday, Stephenson said police had been advised by a Downing Street official later identified by Cameron's office as his chief of staff Ed Llewellyn not to brief the leader on the scandal.
In a 2010 email to Yates, Llewellyn said he "didn't think it would really be appropriate" for the police to discuss the issue with Cameron, and that he "would be grateful if it were not raised".
Rebekah Brooks, who resigned as News International chief executive on Friday and edited the paper when Dowler's messages were allegedly hacked, also testified to Tuesday's committee.
She said the hacking of Dowler's phone was "pretty horrific and abhorrent" but insisted she had no knowledge it had happened until papers obtained from police by lawyers for actress Sienna Miller, another hacking victim, emerged in 2010.
News Corp's shares steadily climbed in New York trade Tuesday, recovering 5.51 percent to $15.79 by the close of the markets.

Taliban on Wednesday said Mullah Omar was still alive, accusing the Americans of hacking into their phones after a text message sent to media from a spokesman's phone said the leader was dead.
In the text message, Zabihullah Mujahid said: "Leadership council of IEA (Islamic emirate of Afghanistan) announces that Ameer-ul-Mumineen (Mullah Omar) has passed away. May mighty God bless him."
He later denied sending the message, speaking by telephone.
